At the IFA 2018 press conference in Berlin, Huawei has announced its latest system-on-a-chip, Kirin 980 AI mobile chipset which is the first 7nm mobile processor. The Kirin 980 will offer the world’s fastest smartphone Wi-Fi speed, clocking in at 1,732 Mbps, which is higher than the speed of Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. CEO Richard Yu has also further announced its upcoming flagship smartphone Mate 20 series will be unveiled in London on October 16. In the series, Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 pro will come with the just-announced Kirin 980 chipset. So, the Huawei Mate 20 series will be the first smartphone series to sport this chipset.
On the upcoming flagship device of Mate 20 series, Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro may come with a 6GB RAM/128GB, and an 8GB RAM/256GB storage options respectively. The flagship smartphones are expected to be powered by Android 9 pie Operating System out of the box. The Mate 20 will sport a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with a water drop notch. The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro may have triple cameras, and 4,200mAh battery will be added to fuel the smartphones. You may also expect Wireless Charging will be offered when you buy the devices.
In addition to the announcement of 4 color variants of Huawei’s flagship smartphone called Huawei P20 Pro at the IFA event, the mobile electronics giant has also announced the AI cube smart speaker.
Huawei is ready enough to introduce new 4 colors for Huawei P20 Pro. The color options are as follows:
- Pearl White
- Morpho Aurora
- Golden Brown and
- Elegant Black
Coming to the newly announced mobile chipset, the Kirin 980 supports 2,133MHz LPDDR4X RAM. It has 20 per cent better bandwidth and 22 per cent lower latency than the Snapdragon 845. The architecture of the chipset has eight cores: two are for turbo performance, two are for long-term performance, and the four cores are used to handle power management.
No further information regarding the technical specs of the Mate 20 and Mate 20 pro has been revealed by the Chinese manufacturer as of now. It is highly assumed that vivid details will be revealed at the special event which is scheduled for October 16.
